I was delighted to find these fabulous GHOST trousers in a heap of car boot sale cabbage i.e. worn/washed-out modern High Street castoffs.

The seller was doing any three items for a £1 & I REALLY tried hard to find another two items but failed miserably.
Thankfully the chap was very nice & let me have the trousers on their own for 30p :)

Last Sunday when I came across a peachy coloured leather jacket at the car boot sale a DIY project I've been meaning to have a bash at popped into my mind.
A while back I was very impressed by a molded leather breastplate made by uber bloggess Luxirare & I've been on the lookout for light-coloured leather since.
This DIY was great fun & actually quite effortless.
All you need is a plastic mannequin torso, scissors, bathtub/sink/bucket of water & leather.
I used the reclaimed leather from the jacket & it was deconstructed by simply cutting sections out with scissors.
If you want to see the full DIY in pictures then please visit my blogspot:

Check out this cute Chinese take-away carton style bag that I bought at the car boot sale yesterday:

I found an American based company that make similar bags: Yans NY website.

There are also two up for grabs on eBay at the moment, sadly both are in the US, so the postage is going to sting a little :(

Tro, håb og kærlighed is a great Danish movie from 1984 directed by Bille August.
It was love at first sight for me first time I watched this; prompting years of rather obsessive repeat viewing when I was a teenager.
I haven't seen it for years now but I was overjoyed to find this clip on YouTube:

I love this fabulous web knit cape that I bought from a crafty lassie at a market.

I wish I could knit stuff like this!

Bustown Modern - purveyors of extraordinary vintage clothing on eBay.
I am a habitual window-shopper of theirs!
They serve up an amazing mix of dreamy vintage attire teamed with accomplished & immaculate styling that never ceases to inspire me; I just wish I had the money to bid on some of the garments :(
I fell in love with this knitted suede top that was up for grabs a while back...

...and I was over the moon to find a similar top at the car boot sale :)

I really love when that happens!

I’ve been meaning to make a copy of one of my jumpsuits for ages & this week I finally got round to it.

I thought this would be easy to do, as the original design seemed very straightforward, in this conjecture however I was quite wrong!
The design IS very simple until you get to the point where you have to attach a strip of fabric around the waist to hold the drawstring.

There's nothing quite so maddening as having to unpick something several times.

I almost spontaneously combusted from frustration laden anger, that’s how I felt anyway!

I did eventually finish it but to my great annoyance it's still not perfectly straight but I'm not doing it again...end of :(

Instead of shoulder ties, I sewed elastic around the top bit, which keeps it in place nicely.

I might add detachable straps with buttons later.

The drawstring is made from blue rope trim & a couple of wooden beads.

I know the rope isn't a very good match but it was the only blue tie trim I had in my stash.

I also decided to leave the trouser legs flared rather than adding drawstrings or elastic to them.

The fabric:

The weather was really rather lovely today & the boot sale sellers were out in force, almost outnumbering the buyers.
Usually the winter months are rather sketchy for car boot sales but I guess the financial pinch is still being felt, although the UK is allegedly out of the recession now…really…allow me to snigger in a disbelieving fashion.
It seems like the fair-weather sellers that generally don't make an appearance until after Easter are feeling a rather urgent need to convert their clutter into much needed cash & are defying bracing temperatures to do just that.
Here are a few of today's finds...
Five pairs of vintage deadstock tights:

Two Ankh pendants (key of life/key of the Nile) that I'm going to make a pair of earrings out of:

It was love at first sight when I spotted this vintage late 80s Navajo style print suede bomer jacket, It is awesome, yay :)

Now I'd really like a pair of brown fringed boots to go with it & maybe a dream-catcher necklace to complete the Native American vibe.

Marc Jacobs SS 2010:

The bumbag -known in the states as a fanny pack (fnar fnar)- is hotly tipped to make a big comeback this year.
In market- & car boot sale seller circles they never go out of fashion, simply because they are damn practical.
They are also a godsend to travellers the world over & I myself swore by bumbags in my more wandering days.
It's the ultimate shoulder/hands-free bag and the best thing about it is that it stays on, so no risk of mislaying after consuming too many sherberts.
Here's a Moschino bumbag that I picked up from a car boot sale last year:

I found one just like it on eBay, the auction has only a few hours to run.
I'm sure that before long the High Street stores will all be jumping on the bumbag bandwagon & produce a plethora of different ones for mass consumption.
Will you be bumbagging it in 2010?

When I flicked through my colleague’s paper today I came across this:
The Sun A to Z guide of the top trends of 2010
Apparently 'A' is for 'ALL-IN-ONE': One-step style in jumpsuits, playsuits and even dungarees.
Here you have their example of the trend, which is a Miss Selfridge jumpsuit for £45:

This pleases me no end as I am a bit of a jumpsuit afficionado ;)
If you don't want to pay High Street prices, you can always try your luck on eBay.

Here's a vintage 80s floral jacquard jumpsuit that I bought from a market for less than a fiver:

If the trend predictions in 'The Sun' are right then trendy UK fashionistas will be sporting bumbags, clogs, harem pants, ice-cream colours, clashing prints & Zoo-chic garments in 2010.
What trends will you cool cats embrace?

Last year I posted about wanting to make a see-through lace top in the same vein as the funky tops in the Henry Holland SS 2010 collection or like the one Madonna wore in the Like A Virgin video back in the 80s.

Today I finally got round to it, I decided to make a pattern from a vintage 50s top that belonged to my mum.

The top itself is a no-brainer to construct & I just left the edges raw because this fabric does not run.
I added some black lace trim to the neckline & would have added some to the armholes too but I didn't have enough :(
I've styled it here with a vintage bra `a la underwear as outerwear...

I also made two shoulder decorations using some chiffon roses & safety pins.

I've just delighted my eyes by perusing the Dior Spring 2010 Couture Collection on style.com.
As always John Galliano has designed a collection to die for, the man is in my opinion the undisputed king of couture.
I really liked the fitted riding blazers with contrasting lapel detailing:

I've got a couple of vintage blazers with this style of lapel...

I'm still getting circus ringmaster (or should that be mistress) vibes from these but it's now all about 'Equestrienne style'.
I think the blazer trend is definitely sticking around for a bit longer but perhaps the actual blazer will alter in shape a little?
I wouldn't mind seeing more fitted peplum-esque styles like these, as they are far more feminine than the straight up boyfriend blazer.
However until I can afford to put an order in with Monsieur Galliano himself (which incidentally will coincide with the day pigs are seen flying over LDN) I'll stick with my vintage attire.
